Russian immigrants from the meadow side of the Volga River came to Kansas from Russia in large numbers in the early 1900's. Many settled in Trego County. Most of these immigrants were very poor, but did bring with them the treasure of the love of God's word, unshakable faith, and unwavering loyalty to their German mother tongue. They felt an urgency to hold worship services and establish schools. As a result, Zion Lutheran Church came into being. The present church building was dedicated in June 1920 at a cost of $18,000.

Zion has been able to maintain an active Vacation Bible School and adult & children's choirs to offer praise to God at worship with special music. The WELCA stays active doing projects locally and for Lutheran World Relief. God has graciously blessed the ministy of Zion for over 100 years. Thanks be to God!
